Advocacy Agendas

Informed by our rich 130-year history and the expertise of our nationwide network, YWCA GLBR carries on a long tradition of social action and advocacy to advance our mission. As we advocate for policies that bring us closer to eliminating racism, empowering women, and ensuring peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all – your voice is a crucial part of this work.

YWCA USA Advocacy Agenda includes issues related to racial justice, women’s economic security, child care, safety from gender-based violence, Federal budget/appropriations, strengthening the nonprofit sector, civil rights, healthcare, and immigration.

YWCAs of Michigan Advocacy Agenda includes working to eliminate the disproportionate disciplinary outcomes of youth of color in schools and community, by promoting equitable policies and mandating trainings for school officials and law enforcement. For example, the Strong Attendance for Every (S.A.F.E.) Student Act would amend the current Michigan school code section under Act 451 of 1976 to better address and understand the impact of school pushout on Michigan students.

LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES

The 118th Congress represents a critical opportunity to address core issues that impact the needs of women, girls, and marginalized communities. In this moment of prolonged health, economic, and social challenges facing our nation, YWCA is driving an inclusive agenda to address the underlying gender equity and racial justice tensions that are deeply embedded in our nation. Today, we’re working with coalition partners and calling on Congress to passes legislation in the following areas:
