Support the Women’s Health Protection Act
It’s as we feared.
The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization last summer has led to restrictions and outright bans across the nation. Abortion is now illegal in 12 states and wholly inaccessible in 14—causing widespread and lasting harm, especially in communities of color, rural communities, and for those with low incomes.
Last week, Representatives Chu, Escobar, Frankel, and Pressley reintroduced the Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R.12)—a companion to the bill introduced earlier this month by Senators Baldwin and Blumenthal (S.701)—a bill that will safeguard the right to access abortion, free from burdensome and often medically unnecessary restrictions. Every person faces their own unique circumstances and potential challenges and must be able to make their own decisions based on their personal values, the advice of the medical professionals they trust, and what’s right for their family. The Women’s Health Protection Act takes steps to ensure all women and birthing people can access the reproductive care they need.
Join us and call on Congress to take immediate action and protect our right to access abortion!
The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will continue to harm women and people who can become pregnant, particularly people of color, low-income people, members of the LGBTQI+ community, immigrants, young persons, those living in rural communities, and people with disabilities. Equal access to safe, legal abortion care is the right of all persons and is essential to social and economic equality and reproductive autonomy.
